PNG Orders ATR-42 STOL

PAPUA NEW Guinea carrier PNG Air will become the launch customer for the ATR 42-600S short take-off and landing (STOL) regional turboprop having signed a deal for three at the Singapore Airshow. Deliveries of the variant, which was unveiled at the same event in 2019, should start arriving at the Port Moresby-based airline in the first half of 2022. It already operates seven of the larger ATR 72-600s. Laurent Janitza, ATR sales director said: "The STOL variant of the ATR 42, which can operate with a full load into 1,000m runways and with a reduced load into runways as short as 800m is perfect for the Asia Pacific region, where remote locations often have no regular air services."
