IAI and Embraer announce AEW aircraft

ISRAEL AEROSPACE Industries (IAI) and Embraer have teamed up on a new airborne early warning (AEW) aircraft based on the latter company's 'super mid-sized' Praetor 600 business jet. Announced at the Paris Air Show in June, the Embraer-IAI P600 will be targeted at 'second-tier' air forces. On June 18 the two firms signed a strategic co-operation agreement to develop the system. The aircraft features Elta's ELM-2096 active electronically scanned array (AESA) radar in a 'ski box' pod mounted above the fuselage and will carry three systems operators. Elta will also supply signals intelligence (SIGINT) and other electronic systems.
