D-Day markings for 'Bloody Hundredth' Stratotankers

TWO KC-135RS of the 100th Air Refueling Wing (ARW) at RAF Mildenhall, Suffolk, received special markings to commemorate the 75th anniversary of D-Day. The first of these was serial 58-0100 coded 'EP- A' which was completed by May 8, followed by 62-3551 'EP-B' by the 22nd of the month. The two-letter 'EP' prefix represents the identity of the 351st Bomb Squadron, applied to the unit's B-17s based at Thorpe Abbots, Norfolk, 75 years ago, as part of the 100th Bomb Group. The 'star and bar' national insignia has had white added, as carried by the wartime B-17s. Note also the engine covers proclaiming '100 ARW -Proudly maintained by the Bloody Hundredth'. The 100th BG supported the D-Day landings, and its successor unit was involved in flypasts over the Normandy beaches in June.
