Vigili del Fuoco receives AW139s

LEONARDO AW139 c 31833, wearing temporary registration l-EAST, practises approaches to Venegono on March 13. Once in service with the Vigili del Fuoco (VdF, Italy's national firefighting corps), it will carry the code VF-139. The service began searching for a replacement for its AB412s in 2017. Last December 14, the VdF signed a contract for three AW139s valued at €45m, including training of flight crew and technicians, logistic support and an option to acquire 12 more examples. The helicopters will be used for search and rescue at sea and in high terrain, medical rescue, disaster relief and firefighting.
