Peruvian Air Force acquires Enstrom 280FXs

THE FUERZA Aerea del Peru (FAP, Peruvian Air Force) has begun retiring the Schweizer 300C after more than 17 years of service, replacing it with the Enstrom 280FX Shark. Local media reports on June 15 indicate that an initial contract valued at US$1.8m for two Enstroms has been placed with the manufacturer with the eventual intention of acquiring eight of the type, enabling retirement of the Schweizers. The Escuela de Formacion de Oficiales Pilotos (EFOPI) No 51/Grupo Aereo 51/ Escuadron Aereo 510 will operate the Enstroms in the basic and advanced rotary-wing pilot training at Base Aerea Capitan FAP Renan Elias Olivera, Pisco-San Andres. The unit currently flies five S-300Cs. Six Schweizers were originally acquired and all entered service between February and March 2002. One was lost in a crash on February 25, 2013.
