AVIATION'S FIRST STEPS INTO SINGAPORE'S CAPITAL MAKETS

Singapore can boast of several aviation finance banks with bases in the country - BNP Paribas, DVB Bank, KfW Ipex all have established offices, while Natixis is in the process of setting up a platform. Asia has plenty of liquidity with a number of strong regional lenders, including DBS Bank, and an increasing number of Japanese banks, many of which are doing deals out of Singapore. Indeed, levels of liquidity in the commercial markets are so high that the industry has had little need to turn to alternative financing sources. But change could be on the horizon, as the enormous aircraft orders coming out the region from carriers such as Lion Air and AirAsia may precipitate a funding gap in even this liquid market.
