A connected industry

They say to tread carefully through hype, but when the subject of excitement is a convergence of technologies with the potential to generate multi-billion dollar cost reductions, it's clear to see why companies' interest has been piqued. The Internet of Things (loT), which was named the most talked about new technology in the most recent Hype Cycle report from analysts Gartner, has been tipped to have a transformative effect on a cross section of industries. Among those suggested to benefit the most from loT is the commercial aviation sector. While the industry may be a conservative one at heart, given the level of electronics, software and sensors employed in the industry, it seems common sense to use increasing levels of wireless connectivity to generate new efficiencies in manufacturing, supply chain and maintenance operations.
