Survey finds in flight mobile comms demand

Inflight communicatins leader OnAir has released results of a survey which show that 94 per cent of travellers who carry mobile communications devices say they would answer calls during flight, while 78 per cent say they would make calls and send emails if they could.rnOnAir is owned by SITA and Airbus, employs a GSM and GPRS network which uses Inmarsat's Swift Broadband 4th generation satellite system, enabling up to 24 simultaneous voice calls on an aircraft, compared with just five with earlier technologies.rnAirlines currently using,rnor planning to use, the OnAir services include AirAsia, AirBlue, British Airways, Kingfisher, Oman Air, Royal Jordanian, Qatar Airways, Ryanair, Shenzhen Airlines, TAP, TAM and Wataniya Airways, but the provider expects to announce seven more airline customers this year; as well as expansion of the private/corporate aircraft customer range.
