Airlines are prioritizing cabin hygiene, pulling out all the stops to assure passengers and crews that it is safe to fly in the pandemic environment. In addition to safe-care initiatives that include many forms of physical distancing and barriers, masks and touch-less travel, cleanliness is at the top of the list. "Traditionally the window for aircraft cleaning has been around 10-15 minutes on aircraft turns, with the major impetus to be on the cabin visual and aesthetic," Tapis Corp. sales director Matthew Nicholls said. "In the past, it was a case of how quickly we can clean the cabin to make it look visually presentable to the customer. Cleaning the cabin consisted of removing trash, straightening the headrests, a quick vacuum, and focused attention on specific seats that may have had an inflight issue. Now, the focus-based on passenger demand-is to sanitize the entire aircraft interior. This means every passenger space needs a much higher level of cleaning than a cursory inspection and light wipe."
