It's been a rough couple j of years for Boeing's commercial airplane group. The 787 Dreamliner program has suffered delays, as has an updated freighter version of the 747, which may be Boeing's most iconic airplane. On February 13, the company boosted morale by unveiling the long-awaited 747-81 Intercontinental for 10,000 guests and employees at its enormous Everett, Washington plant. As the crowd beat their inflatable "thundersticks" to rock music, the curtain parted amid bright light and stage fog, revealing the $ 317 million, 250-foot-long jumbo jet, painted white and metallic red-orange.
