Airborne Laser TKO'ed

Last december the Pentagon announced that the Missile Defense Agency will mothball the Boeing-led Airborne Laser project, which was to destroy ballistic missiles via a chemical oxygen iodine laser on board a 747 ("How Things Work: Missile Killer," Apr./May 2010) and instead investigate the operation of lasers on high-altitude unmanned aircraft.
