Earth on the Edge: Science for a Sustainable Planet

Earth on the Edge: Science for a Sustainable Planet was the theme of the XXVth general assembly of the International Union of Geodesy and Geophysics (IUGG), held in Melbourne from 28 June to 7 July 2011. This was the first time in its 92 year history that the quadrennial General Assembly had been held in Melbourne, and only the second time that it had been held in Australia. The previous occasion was in Canberra in 1979. The assemblies are held once every four years and bring together researchers working in earth, atmospheric, oceanic, polar and planetary sciences.
