European Union Likely to Meet Its Kyoto Greenhouse Gas Emission Target

A recent report by the European Environment Agency (EEA) indicates that, in 2008, greenhouse gas emissions from the countries making up the EU-15 were 6.2% below base year emissions. The EU-15 is made up of the 15 member states that were part of the European Union (EU) up to April 30, 2004. According to the November 12, 2009 report titled Greenhouse gas emission trends and projections in Europe 2009, during the five-year period 2004-2008, EU-15 emissions were on average 3.9% below base-year levels.
