Flammable Refrigerants Proposed as Substitutes for Ozone-Depleting Substances

On July 8, 2014 (79 FR 38811-38840), EPA proposed to approve, subject to use conditions, several flammable refrigerants as substitutes for ozone-depleting substances (ODS). The use conditions are intended to ensure that the ODS substitutes do not pose a significantly greater risk in the designated end use than other substitutes that are currently or potentially available. The end uses for which the ODS substitutes would be approved include: household refrigerators and freezers, retail food refrigeration, very low temperature refrigeration, non-mechanical heat transfer, vending machines, and residential and light commercial air conditioning and heat pumps.
