Ghana Mi-171 Delivery Imminent

The Ghana Air Force is expecting to take delivery of four Mil Mi-171Sh medium transport helicopters. During a ceremony in May to commission Ghana's second Airbus Military C295 transport aircraft into service, Vice President John Dramani Mahama said that: "Probably in the next few months, hopefully by July [the air force] should take delivery of another four Mi-17 helicopters." On November 17, 2011, the government proposed to parliament the acquisition of four Mi-171Shs, worth an estimated €64.4 million. Of that amount, €40.3 million was to come from a Fidelity Bank Limited loan. On June 20 the Joint Committee on Finance and Defence and Interior presented a report to parliament on a credit facility agreement between Ghana and Fidelity Bank for €24.1 million to finance the purchase of the remaining two helicopters.
