Malta Receives Second King Air MPA

The Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) have taken delivery of a second Beechcraft B200 King Air aircraft configured for maritime patrol. On March 6, the aircraft (AS1227, c BB2018, ex D-IMPB) was flown from Braunschweig near Berlin and escorted into Maltese airspace by the AFM's first King Air. The aircraft had come from Aerodata at Braunschweig Airport, where it was converted for maritime patrol duties (see Second Maltese King Air MPA Commences Conversion, July 2011, pl3). Additional equipment includes a belly-mounted Telephonics RDR-1700B radar with 360° coverage, an L-3 Wescam MX-15i dayight surveillance turret with infrared camera and a search and rescue direction finder. It is flown by two pilots and carries a mission system operator and two observers.
