Biofuels Sought by Airline Industry

The air transport industry says it is eager for the faster commercialisation of alternative fuels. A number of related announcements were made on March 21 and 22 at the Sixth Aviation and Environment Summit organised by the Air Transport Action Group (ATAG) in Geneva, Switzerland. Airbus, Boeing and Embraer signed a memorandum of understanding to work jointly on biofuels in a bid to accelerate their development, availability and commercial usage. At the summit, Airbus CEO Tom Enders said the industry wanted assurances from governments "in allocating proper resources to venture beyond today's limitations" in the provision of alternative fuels and other processes, such as more efficient air traffic management.
