More Fire Scouts for US Navy

The US Navy is set to order more Northrop Grumman MQ-8 Fire Scouts this year. Up to $19 million will be spent procuring 12 examples of the enlarged MQ-8C variant of the vertical take-off and landing platform. Approval for the purchase came in the latest round of defence spending passed by Capitol Hill, and follows the Department of Defense sanctioning the acquisition of a larger and more capable version in August 2011 (see Larger Fire Scout Requirement Approval, October 2011, pl7).
