Myanmar's Department of Civil Aviation is planning to build a major international airport at Hanthawaddy in the country's central Pegu Division. It also plans to modernise and expand the airports at Yangon and Mandalay. International contractors are bidding for the programmes and contracts are expected to be awarded before the end of this year.
