The Chinese Government has allocated funding for the Xi'an Aircraft Industry Company's (XAC's) MA700 twin turboprop regional airliner project. The aircraft will be able to carry 76 passengers and is aimed primarily at the domestic market. Design studies for the MA700 began in 2006 and its configuration - which closely resembles the ATR 72 -was first revealed when a model was displayed at Airshow China at Zhuhai, in Guangdong Province, in November 2008.
