Mud Hens

The past 30 years of air combat could be described as the age of the Eagle. The McDonnell Douglas F-15 Eagle fighter (now built by Boeing) was first used in combat in 1982, when the Israelis swept Syrian fighters from the skies over Lebanon. Though air-to-air victories were scarce during subsequent conflicts, the F-15 was extensively used in the air-to-ground role. Two-seat F-15E Strike Eagles, colloquially called Mud Hens, have been instrumental in the revolution in airpower that has seen networked sensors and precision-guided munitions transform how advanced air arms fight.
