On March 25 the Ministry of Defence (MoD) released the Defence Estate Rationalisation Update. The document revealed the fates of several military sites, including changes to a number of RAF stations. It confirmed that the Eurofighter Typhoon-equipped No.1(F) and 6 Squadrons will move from RAF Leuchars, Fife to RAF Lossiemouth, Morayshire, from the summer of 2014. There they will continue to provide the Quick Reaction Alert (Interceptor) North. Typhoon operations at RAF Leuchars will cease in autumn 2014 and the airfield will be transferred to the British Army.
