Indian Unmanned Air Vehicle Developments

Details of the Aarush X1 and an Indian Institute of Technology (NT) rotary unmanned air vehicle (RUAV) have recently been released. The Aarush X1 urban unmanned air system (UAS) results from a memorandum of understanding signed between Lockheed Martin and the Delhi Technology University (DTU) in 2009. The 3.65m (12ft) wingspan UAS weighs 34.6kg (77Ib) and is designed to carry a 9kg (20Ib) payload for eight hours. Largely built from composite materials and powered by a 50cc two-stroke piston engine, the UAS has a speed range of between 22 and 70kts (41 and 130km/h). Its sensor package includes a high-resolution electro-optical camera on a retractable gimbal, or a dayight infrared camera.
