EC225 Airworthiness

During a press conference at Heli-Expo, Eurocopter's departing CEO, Lurtz Bertling, spoke of the priority the company is giving to resolving airworthiness issues with the EC225 Super Puma. The type remains grounded in the UK and Norway after two aircraft ditched in the North Sea during the second half of 2012. Both accidents were caused by cracks in the main gearbox bevel shaft gears. The global fleet, operating under restricted flying rules, is expected to return to unrestricted overwater flight operations later this spring subject to additional safety checks - in the form of frequent inspections - by civil aviation regulators in relevant nations.
