Aberdeen-based Bristow Helicopters has been awarded a ten year contract -estimated at £1.6 billion-to provide search and rescue (SAR) services for the UK's SAR-H requirement. Bristow Group has its corporate headquarters in Texas. The new service, announced by the Department for Transport on March 26, will start in April 2015 and run until 2026. Under the contract 22 helicopters, comprising 11 Sikorsky S-92sand 11 AgustaWestland AW189s - will operate from ten bases across the UK, bringing to an end 70 years of military SAR service provided by the RAF and Royal Navy.
