The last US Air Force Raytheon MC-12W Liberty twin-turboprop intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft have left Afghanistan. They departed on October 1 from Bagram air base. MC-12Ws had logged 40,000 missions and 200,000 'green ink' (combat) hours over Afghanistan since 2009. The Bagram-based 4th Expeditionary Reconnaissance Squadron (ERS), which operated the MC-12Ws, has been inactivated and replaced by US Army Task Force (TF) THOR, which includes multiple types of aircraft (mainly modified Beechcraft King Air airframes) fitted with systems to detect improvised explosive devices (IEDs). The withdrawal from Bagram took place one month after the 351st ERS based at Kandahar air base was inactivated.
