The Mi- 171A2 is powered by two Klimov VK-2500PS-03 engines, an uprated and significantly modernised derivative of the TV3-117VMA that powers the previous Mi-8/17/171 versions. The new engine, featuring dual-channel full authority digital engine control and an anti-surge protection system, is rated at 1,417 to 1,790kW (1,900shp to 2,400shp) for take-off (limited to 60 and 30 minutes respectively) or 2,014kW (2,700shp, maintained for two-and-half minutes) in a one-engine inoperative mode. The VK-2500PS-03 engines are fed by separate fuel systems and use all-new Pall intake filters which the manufacturer says provide 95% efficiency in terms of protecting the intake from dust and sand particles.
