Tornados to Chad

Three No.Ⅱ (Army Co-operation) Squadron RAF Tornado GR4s have been deployed to N'Djamena International Airport in Chad to conduct operations over Nigeria. They are understood to have arrived in Chad in late August. The Tornados will join the search for female school students kidnapped by the Boko Haram militant Islamic movement operating in Nigeria in April. The group, which has killed around 5,000 civilians over five years, announced it intended to sell the children into slavery, prompting several nations to offer aid to Nigeria in its fight against the militants. The RAF previously sent a No.5(AC) Squadron Raytheon Sentinel R1 to aid the hunt. It left RAF Waddington, Lincolnshire, on May 18, and was based at Accra in Ghana.
