Sustaining Special operations

Actively and continuously engaged in combat missions since October 2001, personnel and platforms of the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment (SOAR) see a sustained presence in the US Central Command, while also standing ready in the US Southern, Pacific, Africa and European Commands.The force is headquartered in Fort Campbell in Kentucky, in addition to the first and second battalions. The third battalion is located at Hunter Airfield in Georgia, while the fourth is at Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Washington State.The tempo of operations on the force's modified MH-47G Chinook, MH-60M Black Hawk and assault and attack configurations of A/MH-6 Little Bird helicopters means that development and upgrade opportunities must be carefully planned to ensure mission readiness is maintained.
