United Airlines: Back from the Brink

So far, the 21st century has not been terribly kind to United Airlines. Since 2000, the world's second biggest carrier, in terms of revenue passenger miles flown, has endured chronic labour ! troubles, soaring oil prices, competition from low-cost j operators and, of course, 9/11 and its aftermath. As most readers will be well aware, United's aircraft tragically played a central role in the events of that fateful day. Weighed down by all of this, United filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in December 2002, finally emerging in February 2006.
