Etihad Engineering was the darling of the annual Aviation Business Awards ceremony held in Dubai last October. The company scooped the MRO Service Provider of the Year . Award for the fifth time since 2014 while CEO, Abdul Khaliq Saeed, was recognised as Aviation Executive of the Year. Both awards reflect the firm's leading position in the region, where it continues to thrive in the face of quality competition. Given such success, some assume that the majority of Etihad Engineering's work comes from its parent company, so it may come as a surprise to learn that it accounts for just a quarter of the overall workload. Located at Abu Dhabi International Airport, the company occupies a sprawling 500,000m~2 (5,381,955sq ft) complex, of which approximately 66,000m~2 (710,418sq ft) comprises hangarage. Given the facility's unusually broad remit, 10,000m~2 (107,639sq ft) of hangar space is devoted to aircraft painting, while a custom-designed facility can accommodate up to a trio of Airbus A380-800s simultaneously. So, what keeps this vast site busy, and how does Etihad Engineering uphold its enviable reputation?
