Rain Immersed Air Tattoo (RIAT)

Following lengthy periods of torrential rain, the organisers of the Royal International Air Tattoo cancelled the air show scheduled to take place on the weekend of July 12-13 at RAF Fairford, Gloucestershire. This was the first cancellation in its 38-year history. The heavy rainfall left two of the car parks awash and there was concern that vehicles would be uncontrollable. On the Saturday, over 100 tons of aggregate were laid in the car parks to provide a safe surface, but proved to be insufficient.
