MICA AIR-TO-AIR MISSILE

The main air-to-air weapon of the Rafale is the multi-target, multi-mission MBDA MICA EM/IR, a lightweight 112kg (246lb) thrust-vectoring missile capable of both interception missions beyond visual range and close-up dogfight combat. Two variants of the MICA are in service on the Rafale -the radar-guided MICA EM (Electromagnetique/Electromagnetic) and the infra-red-guided MICA /R (above) - ensuring a reduction in direct costs as the airframes, warheads and motors are the same for both variants, the only difference being the seeker.
