Boeing to Develop US Army's New ISR Capability

Boeing's Network and Space Systems was awarded an $88.1 million contract on November 30 for the 24-month engineering and manufacturing development (EMD) phase of the US Army's Enhanced Medium Altitude Reconnaissance and Surveillance System (EMARSS) programme. EMARSS is an intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance package that will be installed on Hawker Beechcraft King Air 350ERs. Four aircraft will be equipped with the system, while the contract also includes options for an additional two, plus six low rate initial production units. The EMD work will be undertaken at Huntsville, Alabama, in co-operation with the company's Phantom Works rapid prototyping and innovation centre. It is expected to be completed by November 29, 2012, although if the options are exercised it will run for a total of 42 months.
