The Royal Malaysian Air Force's Mikoyan MiG-29 fleet will remain in service, albeit in limited use for the foreseeable future, Chief of Air Force General Datuk Seri Roslan Saad said on May 31. Speaking at a press conference at Kuantan Air Base, home of the MiG-29N/MiG-29NUB fleet, on the occasion of the Royal Malaysian Air Force's 58th anniversary, Roslan said plans are still underway to acquire a new multi-role fighter, but the decision is still some way off. He told local media: "We are now in the final stages of studying which companies are able to meet our requirements [and] the decision to be made is not for the short term. Our focus is on a multi-role combat aircraft [MRCA] capable of performing various roles, among others air-to-air combat and air-to-surface attack."
