A Royal Australian Air Force Boeing E-7A Wedgetail airborne early warning and control (AEW&C) platform set a record for the longest operational mission in November, when the aircraft was airborne for 17.1 hours as part of Operation Okra. The mission, over Syria and Iraq as part of Australian Air Task Group (ATG) operations against IS forces, began as a standard sortie, but well into the mission the Wedgetail's crew was asked to extend a few hours longer. The average Wedgetail mission duration is around 13 hours.
