Even if the roots of the Aviazione dell'Esercito (AVES, or Italian Army Aviation) were made by light aircraft, today it is generally accepted that this air arm is based on its rotary-wing component. Of course, this is not wrong, but it must not be forgotten that the AVES still maintains a small fixed-wing fleet that has recently been enlarged, thanks to the introduction of the first tactical unmanned aerial vehicles (TUAVs).
