The first regular direct flight between Europe and Australia is in operation after Qantas started flying a new Perth-London Heathrow roundtrip with the Boeing 787-9. At around 17 hours long, the non-stop service covers 7,828 nautical miles (14,498km), making it the longest yet served with a 787 and the second-longest airline flight currently in operation after Qatar Airways' Doha to Auckland, New Zealand, route.
