Some 86 newly mint-ed second lieutenants are heading to the U.S. Space Force as its first company-grade offi-cers, following their April 18 graduation from the U.S. Air Force Academy. They are among nearly 1,000 new graduates, with the bal-ance commissioning into the Air Force, capping a tumultu-ous month for the Cadet Wing, during which seniors rallied to organize the travel home of roughly 3,000 underclassmen to protect against the spread of the coronavirus, two seniors died in apparent suicides, and Academy and service leaders moved up graduation by six weeks to help the Class of 2020 move on from the tragedy and begin their professional careers.
