Lt. Gen. Craig R. McKinley, a 32-year Air Force veteran, became the 12th director of the Air National Guard on June 3. In this capacity, he will head a force of more than 106,000 Air Guardsmen, along with their fighter, mobility, and other types of aircraft. McKinley, a fighter pilot and former official of the Air Force Association, succeeds Lt. Gen. Daniel James III as ANG's senior leader. James officially retired June 3. The new Air Guard director most recently had served as Air Force assistant deputy chief of staff for plans and programs at the Pentagon. He earlier had served as commander of 1 st Air Force and commmander of NORAD's continental US region, Tyndall AFB, Fla. McKinley also has been active in AFA work, serving in the past as a national vice president, national director, state president, and member of the Executive Committee.
