On April 18, 1942, 80 brave men flew 16 B-25 bombers off the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Hornet deep in the western Pacific. Led by Lt. Col. James H. "Jimmy" Doolittle, their mission was to avenge Japan's attack on Pearl Harbor less than five months before and raise American morale by bombing the Japanese homeland.
