摘要

Five teams of Colorado high school students gathered in April in Colorado Springs to see which one could best plan the orbit of a satellite to pass information between ground stations thousands of miles away. The exercise was the proof-of-concept demonstration for the Air Force Association's fledgling StellarXplorers student outreach initiative. Conceived in late 2014, StellarXplorers is modeled on AFA's CyberPatriot National Youth Cyber Education Program, but deals with space. Like CyberPatriot, it is meant to expose students to science, technology, engineering, and mathematics disciplines and supports one of AFA's mission pillars: advocating for aerospace power and STEM education.
