As of July 17, three Americans had died in Operation Freedom's Sentinel in Afghanistan and seven Americans had died in Operation Inherent Resolve in Iraq and Syria. The total includes nine troops and one Department of Defense civilian. Of these deaths, two were killed in action with the enemy while eight died in noncombat incidents. There have been 33 troops wounded in action during OFS and one in OIR.
