The automation theme in the whole of the hosiery and knitting industry, that has been gathering pace since the introduction of electronic needle selection and computer control in the 1960's and 1970's is now veering in a new direction. This is towards the production of complete garments - requiring little or no sewing afterwards - on the knitting machine itself.
