India has finally agreed to finance the Katende dam after writing off Congo-K's debt. Work on the Katende dam will at last begin in September, The boss of India's Exim Bank and Congolese finance minister Matata Ponyo signed an agreement in mid-July that provided for India to lend $168 million to Kinshasa to build the 64 MW Kananga plant that will service the provinces of East and Western Kasai.
