Total and Thierry Tanoh clash over LNG project

After being announced with great pomp inrn2017, French group Total’s floating storagernregasification unit (FSRU) in the port of Abidjanrnis being blocked by Ivorian minister of oilrnThierry Tanoh. The estimated €150 millionrninvestment will be used to supply 3 millionrntonnes of gas to the Ivorian economic capital’srnthermal power plants. The reason for therndelay boils down to economics. According tornour sources, Tanoh is offering between $5.5rnand $6 per million MMBtu, while Total wantsrn$7 per million MMBtu. The French major hasrnurged Prime Minister Amadou Gon Coulibalyrnto reopen the negotiations. Total has severalrnpartners on the project: Shell, Azerbaijanirnnational company Socar, American firmrnEndeavor and Ivorian groups Petroci andrnCI-Energies.
