Internal Palestinian conflict plays out in Khartoum

The seizure on 23 September of the assets of fourcompanies that the Sudanese transitional governmentbelieves are linked to Palestinian Hamas is continuing tocause a stir between Khartoum, Gaza and Ramallah. Theseized entities - the construction group Hassan al-Abed,the agricultural operator al-Biyada, the money transfercompany Al-Faiwaq and the Paradise Hotel managementcompany - were run by Palestinian businessmen who,according to the Commission for the Dismantling of the30 June 1989 Regime, were linked to Hamas, for whichPresident Omar al-Bashir's regime has long served as arear base and logistical platform (see our sisterpublication Intelligence Online, IO 13/04/11 and01/04/09). The work of the Commission is largely fed byUS information sharing.
