Senegal finally gets a shop window for its mining sector

After a more than 10-year wait, Senegal's mines register is on line. US company Trimble, which was given the job of developing it, brought it into operation a few weeks ago. It enables all to see in real time the status of any mining permit and to apply for one if it is available. The register's creation was delayed because the project was launched in 2009 using the 2003 mining code. The work of bringing it into line with the rules laid out in the new mining law, which came into effect in November 2016, was only started after a long delay (AI, 20/04/21).
