Under rising pressure from English-speaking separatists, Yaoundé goes after traditional leadership

In the latest episode in the never-ending conflict between English-speaking separatists and Cameroon's armed forces, the defence ministry issued a search warrant for several high Nso officials. Cameroon's ministry of defence issued a search warrant on 7 August for 13 individuals. It intends to arrest three high officials from the Nso chiefdom, one of the biggest in the northwest, and based in Kumbo. The ministry believes they have connections to English-speaking separatists in the area, including the Red Dragons, the most influential local militia, led by Chief Field Marshall.
