The president's plans to revise all the contracts the DRC has signed with China was largely inspired by the United States. According to our information, the United States, which has made no secret of its support for President Felix Tshisekedi, actively encouraged the Congolese administration to renegotiate its mining contracts with China. The plan was announced in mid-May by the Congolese leader during a meeting in Kolwezi - a few days after the Africa Intelligence's first revelations (AI, 05/05/21) - but it has been in the making at the highest level of state for almost a year and a half, with the support of Washington.
